BREAKING YOUR HEART
copyright © John A Read 2000
Well here I am again,
Breaking your heart again.
It seems to be the only thing I?m good at.
But you really should have known,
This day would come along.
After all, we?ve had enough rehearsals.
I know you love me more than I deserve,
I?ll always remember how you hugged me tight,
And said I make everything alright.
That was really very sweet of you.
Oh how it?s going to break your heart,
When I tear all that apart.
And tell you that I?m leaving you.
I fell in love with another girl,
But I didn?t fall out of love with you.
God must have a wicked sense of humour,
When he made the rules so hard to follow through.
If only you?d been spiteful.
Done the things that some girls do.
But you?ve done nothing to deserve,
What I?m going to do to you.
Perhaps I?ll be a coward,
And sneak into the night.
You?ll wake up in the morning,
Thinking everything?s alright.
But I couldn?t bear the thought,
Of not being there when you need me.
That?s a stupid weakness isn?t it,
When I?ll soon be gone for good.
So I?ll wait until the moment?s right,
Before I do my worst.
Telling you I love you,
Saying we can still be friends.
Anything you want to hear,
Even that I?ll stay.
Then when you think you?ve won me back,
You?ll see me walk away.
