Story Behind The Song
A friend of mine had a fly-in\fly-out job at a mine in outback Australia. The plane didn?t pressurise correctly and the people inside the plane became unconscious (and probably died). The plane flew across a large part of Australia before running out of fuel and crashing. No one survived.

Lyrics
Verse
Look up high, to the pale blue evening sky
Close your eyes and ask the question, ?why??
Why in a world of so many, was there just one of you
Why in a world of such plenty, is so much given to oh so few
Chorus
It doesn?t seem very right to me
I?ve seen the tears in your eyes
When you say, it?s been an awful, an awful long time
It doesn?t seem very right to me
I?ve seen the tears in your eyes
When you say, it?s been an awful, an awful long time
Bridge (musical)
Chorus
How can this be the truth to me?
A friend flies to work then he dies
Stare at the floor for such an awful, an awful long time
Ghost plane, is how the headline read
Friends, husbands, sons they die
Right to say it?s been an awful
You?re right to say it?s been an awful
You?re right to say it?s been an awful
An awful long time.
