Story Behind The Song
I was in my room, one night, washing some dishes, and I kept thinking about how unbelievable it was that my boyfriend had ended our relationship so abruptly and so disrespectfully. My thought process was a little like this: "silent treatment... hmm.. silent films.. Charlie Chaplin?.. I love Charlie Chaplin... I remember writing an essay about the silent film era.. "The Power of Silence," I called it.. geez.. I used to tell my guy how much I loved that era...[lightbulb]" [runs to keyboard].. [song is completed in an hour]
That's pretty much the "moment of" story behind the song.
I'm hoping to get the opportunity to spend some time at Black Rock Studios in Greece to better improve my songwriting abilities, so that I can continue to use music as a healthy outlet for expressing my thoughts and emotions. Thank you so much for the consideration!
Song Description
When things started to get a little more complicated between my boyfriend and myself, his plan of action was to completely take himself out of the picture with no explanation whatsoever. After a week of making plans for the future and talking about how 2017 was going to be our year, he suddenly broke up with me via text message, and I have not heard or seen from him since. My number was also blocked from his phone a few days after the break-up text. The rug was completely ripped from under me... I did not expect it at all, and my heart was left in pieces. So, I've written this song to help me come to terms with it all.. to find my healing through music. It's a song about misunderstanding, the silent treatment, of course, and perhaps hopeless love, with an element of impatience in "I don't know how much longer I'm willing to understand." I wanted the lyrics to also exude this sense of self-respect, despite the feeling of helplessness. At the end of the day, the silent treatment is a form of emotional abuse and should not be dismissed lightly. I wanted to be sure to get that point across.
