Story Behind The Song

Fred and I went to high school together and never would have imagined then that we'd cowrite some songs some day. He is a lawyer by profession but definitely a poet in his spirit.

A majestic voyage through winter waters
Begins a search for the treasure of their fathers
Sparkling eyes twinkle with what they might find
The same eyes swim in tears for those left behind


Icy currents, bitter swells carry youthful dreams
Crashing water cannot muffle eager screams
The heavens sing as the waves dance the sea
A thousand hopes wait for the chance to be free


But those who stayed on shore
Can only peer at distant skies
Only black linings in silver clouds
Can be seen by tragic eyes

Then the ship fades in a mist of green and gold
Leaving only a story waiting to unfold

To risk it all for what the others seek
