Song Description
The seis por derecho is one of the variations of the joropo rhythm, which is the predominant folk music style in the Llanos. We play it on the Arpa llanera (folk harp from the Llanos), the cuatro (a small, four-stringed folk guitar), and the capachos (maracas filled with seeds of Canna sp.), thus forming the typical Llanos ensemble. String instruments arrived in the Llanos in the sixteenth century with the Jesuit missionaries, and since then their use in folk music has brought about a fascinating blend of musical cultures.
