Story Behind The Song
During July and August 1967, I was living, for a few weeks, in the headquarters of a London PR company used by the Beatles and Epstein's company NEMS, just off Berkeley Square, being managed by Ray Williams, one of the partners.
In late August, the answering machine was being checked and there was a message from Epstein. He was very stoned and left a rather desperate message for another of the handsome young partners, who dealt with NEMS. It was quite clear what the message meant and the partner said that he wasn't going to get back to Brian. Three days later, Brian Epstein was found dead.
Rightly or wrongly, my song makes another conclusion to the official verdict on Epstein's death, based on the happenings of three days before.
Song Description
Written using Beatles style cryptic lyrics, the song tells of Brian's despair at ever finding love. The 'electric voice' is the answering machine and Simon is the love interest. His surname is encrypted in the lyrics. Brian get's no answer.
Verse 2 is Brian's proposal of interest which goes unanswered.
The bridge shows Brian's perfect but empty life and he eventually admits to himself, he's wasting his time.
Brian thinks it's time to go!

Lyrics
My Turn
By Kirk Duncan & Aidan Bell
1:
Is it going to be my turn
Where is the light of day
I called you up on the telephone
Electric voice says - nobody home
Please can I have my turn
Simon says, he'll be gone for days
I'm left living in a chemical haze
I need you to be my turn
2
Riding around in style
Mile after golden mile
Making it happen while the suns still shine
You make the news and I'll make you mine
Now can it be my turn
Simon gives no reason or rhyme
Electric voice says some other time
I'm not going to get my turn
Bridge:
Brian leads an epic life
Of strawberries and cream
He lives a life of luxury
In a multi-coloured dream
But Simon says he's not the man
To make the dream complete
So Brian knows he's on his own
And he admits defeat
3
Day after empty day
My chances just slip away
Leaving little messages for you to ignore
Electric voice says - please leave more
I don't think I'll get my turn
Simon leaves saying nothing at all
And I'm left trying to make another call
Will I ever get my turn
Coda:
When will it be my turn
When will it be my turn
When will it be my turn
To die - By bye
(Repeat to fade)
