GRANDPA'S.GUITAR W:Larry M Clark BMI P:Ellemsee Music BMI larrymyrtus@yahoo/com
VERSE
A young teenaged boy visiting GrandMa at her home
As young boys are apt to do, he began to roam
He came across an old guitar in a dark back room
Dusty, with rusty strings that were way out of tune
Going back to GrandMa, there in her rocking chair
"GrandMa, look what I found in the room back there"
"Yes, I know, and you're very welcome to have it then,
But it's so old, I don't know if it'll ever play again"
CHORUS
Granddpa bought it in 1940 for 5 dollars and a quarter.
in 1944, he got called to cross the water,
He took his guitar, sailed away across the deep blue sea,
Landed on a place that they called Normandy,
He charged up to a foxhole where several Germans hid,
The guitar came back home but Grandpa never did.
VERSE
The boy worked to clean the guitar and renew it's condition
Stringing the guitar, and learning chord positions Practising hard and regular, He slowly learned to play But felt an extra pair of hands was helping him on his way
Old songs filled his head and he learned to pick everyone GrandMa said "sounds like picking that Grandpa had done Then, GrandMa said, "I'm joining GrandPa in the Angel Band" But I've already told GrandPa, his guitar is in good hands
