Story Behind The Song
I grew up experiencing discrimination because of my age (skipped a grade, younger than everyone else) ... religion (born Jewish in a Southern Baptist town) ... and difference (the geeky writer who wasn't athletic.) Those pains from youth have made me more empathetic and compassionate toward others. This song expresses my wish that the answer to Rodney King's famous question in 1991 -- "can we all get along" -- will some day turn out to be: YES!

Lyrics
VERSE
It's always been our story
Started so long ago
Lettin' things divide us
Different ways to be
Different ways of living
It's easy to fear each other
PRE-CHORUS
Other people chiming in
Stirring up the pot
So many different voices
CHORUS
Everyone is different
All of us are equal
Can't we find a common ground?
Think about our future
Everything affects us
It's time we found our common ground
Common ground.
VERSE
What do we teach our children?
They're the hope we have
They'll create tomorrow
Let us teach them well
We can show them how,
To love and accept each other
Everything we do
All of it points the way
To the kind of world we'll live in
CHORUS
Everyone is different
All of us are equal
Can't we find a common ground?
Think about the future
Everything affects it
It's time we found our common ground
Common Ground.
