Story Behind The Song
One of my students shared a story with me about her child wanting to do a "sleep over" with her father's ashes. The image was so powerful I couldn't help but tear up. This song attempts to capture some of that power.
Song Description
Children are the innocent victims of the war. Many lose their fathers young and must grow up in a mystery of who their father was and why he had to die. This is about that mystery.

Lyrics
Billy and Bobby, Jimmy and Joe
Always think they?re so right ?cause their daddy says so.
When we argue, I?ve got nothing to add.
?Cause most of my life, I never talked to my dad.
Daddy lives in a box, high up on the mantle.
You can see him there right by that yellow candle.
Mommy says that?s where he needs to be?
But maybe tonight he can sleep over with me.
Chorus:
My daddy died in Iraq
My daddy he died in Iraq
I don?t know why,
He just never came back.
When I ask mom about him, She starts out so slow
Then she starts talkin? fast, Like there?s somewhere to go
She say?s daddy?s a hero he died over seas
But mostly I wonder why he?s not here with me.
Chorus
