I wrote this song after watching the bus pull away with my 5 year old little girl on her way to her very first day of school. She is magnificent!

Lyrics
The bus pulled up on Tuesday
The autumn air had just begun to cool
You stood silently waiting
To climb those steps to your first day of school
And as I watched you walk away
I thought I knew exactly what I'd say
But then you stopped and turned around
My thoughts were lost
My words they did confound
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia for little girls
With their dresses, and their messes
With their dances and their prances and their twirls
Well the gym filled up on Friday
Scuffing souls and laughter filled the air
You walked off with a throng of the wrong crowd
With a look that said yeah, stop me if you dare
And as I watched you walk away
I thought I knew exactly what I'd say
But then you stopped and turned around
My thoughts were lost
My words they did confound
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia for little girls
With their dresses, and their messes
With their dances and their prances and their twirls
The church, it was full on Sunday
Quiet music swelled to fill the room
Once again I watched you walk away
A bride now walking to her groom
I've watched you walk what seems like miles
Across gym floors and down church aisles
Now you have a family of your own
And I hope that you will know what I have known
And sing Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia for little girls
With their dresses, and their messes
With their dances and their prances and their twirls
With their dresses, and their messes
With their dances and their prances and their twirls
