Story Behind The Song
I was fleshing out a song at the beginning of this year for what I thought would be a song for my wife - as she's asked multiple times in the 'you never write a song for me' way --- when the music started to sound a bit apocalyptical; the sounds evoked a sort of Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' or a bit 'The Walking Dead' - but this was supposed to be a love song! So I had these images of a couple holding hands looking down a long road of destruction and burning cars... and then Covid-19 hit just as this the lyrics were forming....

Lyrics
Love in the End Times
Well we live in interesting times
And we watch as the death toll numbers climb
days are dark as the ashes fill the sky
night alights as horizon catches fire
Can't you see
With all this world's death and decay
Only you
Can take all of my pain away
in the end times
So we teach our children to survive
learn how to be the heroes to arrive
The world lives on forgetting all who died
Will we forget how those in power lied
Can't you see
With all this world's death and decay
Only you
Can take all of my pain away
in the end times
A flame on the pyre
Chaos and angels conspire
Spirit and flesh form desire
Expire this empire
whomever's left will look to outer space
as the answer to save the human race
All will leave and watch as the world burns
and the virus lives on but never learns
And you and I, love, already dead and gone
some other realm our love will linger on
