Spake The Lover

Story Behind The Song

This song was written in 1978, and for many years existed as a rarely-performed nylon-string guitar number. In early 2006 I had a flash of inspiration that this was actually a ska tune -- from there, it was quick work to produce this version of the tune.

Song Description

A fast-paced, jaunty ska recitation from a "Player" in a moment of weakness.

Lyrics

Love me as you will
You'll find my main intention is to catch myself a thrill
I really can't commit myself, my little chickadee
So very close to me
I wish I had the time to spend
Instead of calling this the end, you see
Dear

Take it from the top
Perhaps if we could start again it wouldn't have to stop
But this has got to be the end, I really can't complain
Everyone gets rain
You get more than you really should
That ought to change, it isn't good to see
Dear

Keep away from me
And all the others like me, for your eyes will never see
The lying and deception that will take away your soul
And leave you feeling cold and empty down inside your shell
Be wary and protect yourself from me
Dear
Please
