Eyes on Jesus

Story Behind The Song

This is another one of my motivational songs that I wrote during my quiet time with the Lord. When I finish reading my bible and praying I will often sing it to myself to get motivated for the day to do God's will in the power of the Holy Spirit. For years all I had was the chorus. Then I decided to write supporting verses to make it a full song. I had fun with the bridge, too! Love really does overcome a multitude of sins. I Peter 4:8

Song Description

Using Bible stories, this song teaches the listeners to live a life of love and refrain from ungodly violence. The Bible Stories are: David and Goliath, Peter and his sword (ear cut off), Stephen the martyr and Dorcas the seamstress. If we keep our eyes on Jesus and our shoulders to the plow, we will stick to the right path and fight the good fight, as St. Paul admonished us in I Timothy 6:12.

Lyrics

CHORUS: Eyes on Jesus, shoulder to the plow
Do His will and do it now!
Don't you swerve to the left or the right.
Love the good love, and fight the good fight.

David faced a giant nine feet high
with bulging biceps, eyes of pride
Boy slung stone and hit the mark
Knocked Goliath out of the park.

But Peter got mad and swung his sword
Cut off an ear but then the Lord
Stuck the ear back on that guy.
Jesus loved the good love; He fought the good fight. SING CHORUS

Stephen preached and clung to hope
When he got stoned (I don't mean dope!)
Forgave his killers, left and right
He loved the good love. Steve fought the good fight! SING CHORUS

With a needle and thread and charity
Dorcas sewed clothes for those in need.
The widows wept when Dorcas died
She loved the good love and fought the good fight. SING CHORUS

BRIDGE: Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who will stand and who will fall?
Fight with your fist and you might sin
Love, sweet love, will always win.
(and love overcomes a multitude of sin!)

So when God shows you what to do.
You'd better get a move on; join the crew
Love the Lord with all your might
You gotta love the good love and fight the good fight. SING CHORUS
