Story Behind The Song
Written based on two characters in a novel, "The Failures." The characters have found themselves lost in another world, scared and unable to sleep, but keep pushing on. Their plight is a metaphor for how the author has often felt in life, searching for the truth in the dark and feeling lost.
Song Description
'A Tangle of Arms' begins with a mellow instrumental to prepare the listener to be amped up into a frenzy.
Fournier sings slightly frantic and disoriented pop melodies over squealing guitars and plenty of ambience. After the second chorus, the listener is sent into a multi-textured rhythm -driven musical coda that closes with crashing, fuzzy guitar and heavy drums.

Lyrics
We've climbed all the way to here, don't stop.
I know that you're scared.
I'm resting with my eyes wide open.
You're not sleeping at all, I know this...
It's so hard to fight when you're looking for answers.
This wild tangle of arms has a hold [on me].
Its left us deep in a dark hole... and I find this place startling... and... disorienting.... it's so hard to fight when you're looking for answers.
