Last summer I took a trip, back to the town where I grew up

I made mistakes, and paid the price, of course
So I cursed that school and my old town; took one last look around
I stood my ground and filed my divorce

I left my ex-hometown behind; the open highway freed my mind
Headed back to the town that I call home
When I got there I felt so free; it was a new lease on life for me
Those old memories would finally leave me alone

Some folks still love their old hometown, some even chose to stick around
I can't argue with their means and ends
But ever since I made the split, I think so much better of it
My ex-hometown and I can still be friends
