BURNING EMBERS
©Pat Flanakin

VERSE
We stand among the ashes shocked and in a daze
We sift through souvenirs of promises we made

I reach my hand to you, but you just walk away
And say oh no

VERSE The streets are quiet now, the sky is hazy gray
The sun is breakin' through into a brand new day

And in my soul I feel a fraction of your pain
You say oh no

CHORUS
Burning embers, falling down
Streets of sadness, without a sound

No one listens, to skin of brown
I say to you what can we do
(I say to you what can we do)

VERSE
The air is ripe with the stench of poverty
This social structure imprisoned you not me

A hundred years have passed and you're still on your knees
I say oh no
- Chorus -
- Break -

VERSE
What can I do, what can I say to help a friend
Why can't I see beyond the color of your skin

It's such a crime to me that we can't start again
Oh no
- Chorus - 2X
