Lyrics
Love is Not a Game to Play
It was late one evening, road ahead was real uneven, as the fog cleared out of my head.
I'd put 50 miles between us, wasn't feeling like a genius, for the things I might have said.
So I slowed way down, put the radio on to try to lose myself in the news.
But then the DJ interrupted, and my head all but erupted as he played this brand new tune.
"Love is not a game to play, there are no rules to follow.
There are no lines to memorize, for that would be too shallow.
It's time to tell her what you really feel, and what you really want.
And then she'll love you for yourself, and you will win her heart."
I was hit between the eyes as I finally realized that I had been some kind of jerk.
I had lied and made her cry without a reason why, and that's what really hurt.
So I turned the car around, put the pedal to the ground, and made a beeline back in the night.
But the cherry-top behind me caught me doing ninety, he gave me this advice.
Chorus
I thanked him for the break, it was a dumb mistake
So I made my way back to her,
As I walked in I just hugged her, told her that I loved her,
That's all I knew for sure.
So with a tear in her eye, I took a big long sigh, and told her she's all I need.
Then I knew that she believed me, held me nice and easy, and sang these word to me.
Love is not a game to play, there are no rules to follow.
There are no lines to memorize, for that would be too shallow.
I'm glad you told me what you really need and what you really want.
And now I know you for yourself, and you have won my heart.
