It's Not That Good Being Poor

Story Behind The Song

Back in the 90's there was a song about how it was better being poor than successful and rich. Having grown up poor I didn't agree. My parents fought almost every day about money. So this song is my response. We actually had plastic curtains and ate macaroni and cheese, not because we wanted to, but because this was what we could afford. So as said earlier, it is a response to someone thinking back on when they weren't rich.

Song Description

This is a humorous response to someone saying that it was better being poor--after they had become rich and famous. Had he lost his mind or just his memory.

Lyrics

It's Not That Good Being Poor
Penelope Torribio

Your in your twelve room mansion,
I'm in my two room shack.
You're singing about the way things were
and how you'd like to go back.
Well I'll tell you I'm about as agreeable as I can be.
I'd gladly give up this shack and things,
if you would trade with me.

It's not that good being poor
don't want to do it anymore.]
Have you lost your mind or just your memory.
It's not that good being poor,
don't want to do it anymore.
The best things in life, well they aint free.

We have our plastic curtains,
you have your satin drape.
We're eating Kraft's Macaroni and cheese,
you're eating t-bone steak.
And we're fighting about that $10 dress that I just bought,
while your fussing about where you should go in your 35 foot yacht.

It's not that good being poor
don't want to do it anymore.]
Have you lost your mind or just your memory.
It's not that good being poor,
don't want to do it anymore.
The best things in life, well they aint free.

It's hard to keep your loving going
when your last dimes been spent,
and they're hammering yon the door
wandering when you're going to pay the rent.
so if you're going to sing about how romantic poor can be,
I'd gladly give up this shake and things,
if you would trade with me.

It's not that good being poor
don't want to do it anymore.]
Have you lost your mind or just your memory.
It's not that good being poor,
don't want to do it anymore.
The best things in life, well they aint free.
