Story Behind The Song
The keyboard part of this song came first, a peaceful and mellow feel, with some poignancy to it. I sat staring out the window for a couple months, playing the melody, until the meaning of the song came to me. It was fall and the trees outside were turning red, and the metaphor allowed me to vocalize feelings I was having toward my family, and giving myself permission to live and think as I felt I should, not only to follow their ideas. And that doing so was a beautiful thing, not a sad thing.
Song Description
This song deals with the feelings people have when they're about to step out of who people want them to be, into a more true version of who they are, even if it means that others will not understand. The metaphor of the leaf falling from the tree is used to show that it is natural to break away from that which nurtured and "grew" you, to experience the fall from the tree, not as something that is tragic, but glorious and peaceful, and that the "death" of the leaf will only give way to the new life that will follow. The song is a reassurance to those who are being left, that they are not forgotten, that they are still loved, but that loving them does not mean an unchanging and stagnant love, but a growing and changing one.

Lyrics
(verse 1)
Feel,
Feel Me
Fall from trees
I don't know if you heard me
Wishing I'd stay new
Don't ask me to
Am I scared?
I am brilliant red
(chorus)
I can't stay here for you
I can't stay here for you
(verse 2)
Acquiesce
Comply
I've made peace with sky
Deeper blue than in summer
And if she takes me to her
Doesn't mean that I've forgotten
(chorus)
I can't stay here for you
I can't stay here for you
(bridge)
If you don't know of seasons
And I can't stop the seasons
If you don't know of seasons
And I can't stop the seasons
(tag)
Feel me
Lightly
Falling
