Story Behind The Song
My great-grandfather is the man for whom this album is named. He fought in the First World War, worked in a factory, and played five-string banjo. He died in 1949. He published only a single song (not this one), and I have most of his lyrics and some of his old music. I like the basic theology of this religious tune, too.
Song Description
This is a traditional-styled gospel song written by my great-grandfather in the mid-1940s. I have the lyrics but not the music and so I composed a waltz tune and a melody for it.

Lyrics
The Word of God is Living Still
Its lamps burn just as bright
As when it shined on Zion's hill
And filled the world with light
Oh word of God, live on, live on
Shine out thy beaming ray
Until the glorious morning dawns
And shadows flee away
And shadows flee away
The word of God does comfort give
Unto the faithful blessed
And all who trust their souls shall live
In blissful peace and rest
Oh word of God, live on, live on
Shine out thy beaming ray
Until the glorious morning dawns
And shadows flee away
And shadows flee away
The word of God are words of love
Its truth shall ever stand
A heritage of the throne above
And light to every land
Oh word of God, live on, live on
Shine out thy beaming ray
Until the glorious morning dawns
And shadows flee away
And shadows flee away
