Nelson is a man who could not stand still
and watch the suffering of his fellow man.
He believes in a voice for all;
in his world this made him a dangerous man.

Winnie became a social worker,
there she came to understand,
how her countrymen lived like dogs
prisoners in their own land.

Nelson came to devote his life
to equality by peaceful means.
The whites would not their power share;
black blood ran red in the streets.

Winnie came to hear of Nelson
from all the people that she met.
Did she realize the kind of stage
fate for their love had set?

In another time, in another place
a tale of joy their love would have been;
but one thing stood in their way,
unyielding minds of evil men.
