Story Behind The Song
I like many others don't have a place to return that I call home. I grew up in El Paso, and things have really changed there. This song expresses the loss of that familiar home feeling.
Song Description
People and places have changed in this small town as progress makes it a big city. All the places he loved as a child growing up have been bulldozed in the name of progress. The singer longs for the place he remembered.

Lyrics
Take This Town of Mine
I used to walk these streets
Knew every crack along the way
Said hello to all I'd meet
That was everyone back in The DAY
We all Swam in Millers Pond
Now its just a mound of clay
They filled it in and now they're gone
It'll be a parking lot some day
TAKE THIS TOWN OF MINE
I DON'T WANT IT ANYMORE
THEY BOTTLED UP THE COUNTRY CHARM
AND THEY SELL IT IN A STORE
TAKE THIS TOWN OF MINE
I'M HEADED DOWN THE TRACK
I'VE LOST TOO MANY MEMORIES
AND I'll never get 'em back
The old oak is cut and gone
Sometimes I sit out on the stump
The air above seems hardly worn
Guess a 100 years don't change it much
I remember our first traffic light
For A time we'd sit and watch it change
Now it signals big Wal mart
And everything got rearranged
CHORUS
BRIGHT LIGHTS BIG CITY
I DON'T HEAR IT CALLIN ME
WHEN I GET DOWN TO THE NITTY GRITTY
IT'S NO PLACE I WANT TO BE
Oh, Life just took a different turn
When daddy had to sell the farm
Funny after that it burned
Nearly made a three alarm
CHORUS
Never get 'em back
