Lyrics
Johnny
Johnny plays baseball but he's not very good.
He has a hard time hitting the ball
And he doesn't catch it when he should
Johhny lowers his head when he sees his coach walk right on by
Over to the boy on the end -
The one who doesn't ever miss a single pop fly
The coach told that boy,
?Hey boy you're gonna be someone someday.
Hey boy you're gonna be someone someday.?
And Johnny just turned and walked away
Johhny goes to school early almost every day
He's the first one there so he can get some extra
help that way.
He's doing better now ? he's raised a grade, but the guy next to him barely tries
and he gets straight A's
The teacher told that boy,
?Hey boy you're gonna be someone someday.
Hey boy you're gonna be someone someday.?
And Johnny just turned a page
(Break)
He tries so hard. He pushes on and on
He wants to hear someone say....
?Hey boy you're gonna be someone someday.
Hey boy you're gonna be someone someday.?
He just turned away (background)
Johnny has a paper route. He does yard work on the side.
His old bike doesn't work so he's savin' for one that will get him by.
As the snow falls down, Johhny passes a man on the street.
He looks like he needs a coat and maybe something warm to eat.
Johhny reaches in his pocket and pulls out the money he saved.
He calls to the man with a wave.
That man said...
?Hey boy you're gonna be someone someday.
I thank you boy, and I know you're gonna be someone someday.?
And Johnny just smiled and walked away
Johnny just turned and walked away.
