Story Behind The Song
This song is my family story, The lyrics were written primarily by my father. It's so special to us that we really don't know how to share it and actually haven't tried to promote it or place it for any use. The 1st verse is about my birth 19 years ago. To everyone's surprise, I was unable to breathe, required emergency treatment, surgery and a one month hospital stay. The 2nd verse is more applicable to all as it is general and describes overcoming challenges. Like most families, we've had some big ones. We've found that our Scars are worth a lot to others who end up traveling down our same road. So we don't hide in shame of our shortcomings. We learn from them, celebrate overcoming the obstacle, and show off the Scars to encourage others.
Song Description
Piano and Strings set the tone. Pain described as a sculptor. The 1st verse is 18 years in the making as my dad recalled the scene in writing it. Each chorus identifies our Scars, how they change us, make us better than we were before AND more beautiful. The 2nd verse describes in more general terms the challenges that our family has faced...they seemed like they could break us, but they strengthened us. Since my background is in Christian contemporary music, the song transitions with a spiritual tone. In fact, my dad 1st wrote as a Christian song but changed the lyrics when I decided to be a pop vocalist. The impetus being to appeal to the spiritual conscience in each person; that power greater than ourselves that helps us get through and is really unexplainable. We show and share our Scars. They tell a great deal of the story of our lives. Not the easy gentle aspect of our existence, but those events in our lives that take us to the brink and are the crucible that provides the heat to transform into beautiful, wonderful...into more than we would have been otherwise.

Lyrics
....So now I show my Scars
cause they say I made it through
And I share my Scars
I'm healing just like you
My Scars make me much more beautiful
...So now we show our Scars
to say it's worth the tears
And we share our Scars
to take away our fears
Our Scars make our story wonderful...
Our Scars make us much more than we were...
