Mercury

Story Behind The Song

The composer, also an avid fan of the esoteric, was inspired originally by Gustav Holsts 'Planet Suite' to devise an alternative suite based on astrology. The idea was conceived in the 1980s before computers had the kind of capability it has now to reproduce authentic orchestral sounds. When the technology arrived it was only a matter of time and investment to see the idea develop into a real commodity. Music publishers, Ton 4 Music, accepted Planet Suite: 3rd Millennium onto its books in 2009.

Song Description

The symbolism for mercury includes communication in all its forms. Using this as a basis for the song, the composer used drums (one of the earliest forms of communication) alongside computerised bleeps (Morse code) and even a telephone ring. The orchestral accompaniment is reminiscent of TV newsreel jingles.
