Story Behind The Song
I met a man back in the nineties who wrote a lot of outstanding poetry. He was a biker they called Ace. His one poem really struck me and I decided to put it to music. I did this with limited resources, A four track recorder, a Turtle Beach sound card and my singing (which leaves a lot to be desired). I had a friend present him with a cassette tape of it. After words I moved out of the area and never saw him again. Over the years I have always wanted to post his work on broadjam. So I set out to try to find him. I went to one of his old eating places and started asking about him when the proprietor of the restaurant informed that he was no longer with us. He passed away twelve years ago in a motorcycle incident. He informed me the the waitress was his daughter. I had the pleasure of meeting his daughter and she gave me her approval of sharing his poetry with you.
So in honor of the memory of Clair L Kling Sr. (Ace) I present this song to you!!!

Lyrics
KING OF THE HILL
by Clair L Kling Sr. (Ace) and Rusty Newcomer
I once had plans and dreams my friend,
I was certain I would go far.
So now you're wondering how it happens to be?
I spend all my time in this bar.
Well here in this bar I'm a real big man.
The absolute king of the hill.
My friends are here and they drink my beer,
And help me run up my bill.
Then there's the girls. Well they used to be girls.
I'll have which ever I want you know.
By the end of the night if I'm wound up real tight
They all look like Marilyn Monroe.
I say "Will you be true?" She says "Sure! Who are you?"
Then lays there and looks like a cow.
Will I respect you in the morning, bitch?
I don't respect you now!
Then there's the fights each Saturday night.
Sometimes I win, sometimes lose.
But win, lose, or draw, it don't matter at all,
As long as my ass don't get sued.
Half hearted promises made to my face,
I think that I had my fill.
So fair weather friends take all you want.
If there's anything left in the till.
I struggled and fought to stay on top,
With friends who aren't run of the mill.
Always there for me, backing me up,
As long as I'm king of the hill.
So you see in this bar, I don't have to go far,
I've got the best friends that money can buy.
Now pardon me friend, it's closing time again.
I'll leave this bar and go home.
And cry.
