Story Behind The Song
Written sometime in 2022, re-visited and revised Spring 2023. The vocal performance is a largely the original scratch version. I felt its crude aspect suited the subject matter; I therefore have resisted re-recording it thus far.
An uncharacteristic piece for me for sure.

Lyrics
i close my eyes
that i might see
beyond the darkness
all around me
tell me why oh why
the stars in the sky
sweet dreams bid goodbye
when she's gone
i stop my ears
so not to hear
the shrill of silence
the din of fear
tell me where hides spring
why the songbird takes wing
bells of joy never ring
(when she's gone)
clouds o'er the meadow
(when she's gone)
it's dreary and cold
sand on my pillow
sleepless and foredone
tears on my window
tea for one
(when she's gone)
clouds o'er the meadow
(when she's gone)
shunned by the sun
sand on my pillow
dust caked on the dawn
tears on my window
tea for one
she's gone
