Story Behind The Song
I've been sitting on the phrase "California King" from the mattress for a while, adapted it to make it political. Also I still haven't gotten over the fact that Arnold Schwartzenneger is my governor. The music involves two riffs that had been kicking around with me for about 2 years. One lazy day I finally just put Part A with Lyric B and Part C with Lyric D and the song just happened. It's my counter-argument to the axiom that the best songs always get written quickly; it's my favorite song that I've written, yet it was a laborious bitch to write.
Song Description
We couldn't be more pleased with everything about how this turned out. It's THE single for us. A primer on California that goes beyond Venice Beach, plus a reminder that we recalled a governor once, we can do it again.

Lyrics
Nudie bars, meth labs, round the block from Disneyland
Redwoods and deserts made of stone
Factories, wineries, offshore oil refineries
Big enough to be a country of its own
What do you get a place
That's got a lot of everything
Maybe we can recall
And get a California king
Star Wars, megastores, bodybuilding governors
Vegetarians who love to shoot their guns
Aerospace apportions, legalized abortions,
Over two million illegal aliens
(chorus)
And we need him right now
And we need him around
Can we get him a crown
Can we get him right now
Mormons, Buddhists, Scientologists and nudists
Survivalists and science fiction fans
Stadium expansions, millionaire McMansions
Hollywood elite and poor Republicans
(chorus)
