Story Behind The Song
Our songs are normally sarcastic, but this one is pretty genuine. People really talk about how sweet the verse is about the father being dead being missed ... just as much it's about an old girlfriend and anybody that doesn't get to see the real you. I'd been playing the piano riff for months over & over with no words. Then one day the chorus words "Didn't I love you?" popped up and the whole song fell into place quickly.
Song Description
A moment of tenderness and ennui? The song that Burt Bacharach never quite wrote. If you're feeling good about yourself and wish people from your past could see you now.

Lyrics
Hey, Vanessa, I hear you're getting married
And we're still friends
But I used to dream about you
Do you remember when?
Didn't I love you
I thought that I loved you
I wish that you knew
The man I am
Hey, Dad it's been ten years now
That you've been dead
I still dream about you
Then I lose you again
Didn't I love you
Man, did I love you
I wish that you knew
The man I am
Started playing music & some painting
There's so much new
You won't know any of my children
But they'll know you
Yesterday, shared a moment with a stranger
And not a word was said
An alternate universe
All within my head
Didn't I love you
For a second I loved you
I wish that you knew
The man I am
