Story Behind The Song
My husband had me read a short film screenplay of his entitled, "Night Lights." The story follows a widowed man in his journey to find a good night's sleep after the death of his wife. In the end he discovers this community of people going through similar insomnia-related stress who come together to sleep.
I was inspired to explore the beauty and tragedy of this widowed man's sleepless nights.
Song Description
Sleep seems to be a gift nature has awarded the mind, in order to turn itself off from the anxieties of the day. But what happens when you cannot rest your eyes, and therefore your mind?

Lyrics
In these hours when nature lets you turn out the lights
and give yourself over to its gentle good night
I know I would see you there
but I can't even
dream about you, dream about you
And these hours grow upon me,
letting me see things that weren't meant to be
and though I find the sun and moon shining at once astonishing,
it wasn't meant to be.
If I could just open my eyes and find my arms closed tight around my pillow
I would lie awake forever after
just to know I saw you once more as you were
but I can't even
dream about you, dream about you.
