Story Behind The Song
"Song From His Heart" has been in my notebook for a
long time, and every once in a while it would pop into
my head. I only had the chorus and it was more of a
3/4 time country ballad.
Then an OP was looking for a country song and I immediately went to
work. I started on lyrics and came up with the guardian
angel concept. The rest just flowed.
Recording the tune was a trip. I started with the
acoustic guitar and then added a canned drumbeat.
Then came the keys on the chorus. Easy simple organ chords that just seemed to work.
Then came the bass. If you cant tell, I am primarily a
bassman. I really liked the feel and sound I got on the
bass and it really gives the tune some punch.
Vocals came next. This took a bit of work. I had three
part harmonies on almost every lyric. Drum time! I laid down the drum track in pieces as I am not really a
drummer, but have the feel. Then, I laid down the lead
guitar. That came nice and easy. One or two takes
and I had more than I needed.
Mixdown was a little rough. I am inexperieced at it, but
am learning with every tune. I realized I had way too
much in the tune and had to strip a lot down. When I
did, everything finally fell into place.
I'm very proud of this piece. Everyone I play it for digs
it, and it get's good reviews across the board.
I think if someone picks this
tune up and gives it to a good recording artist, this song is a hit.

Song From His Heart © 2011 V. Palermo (ASCAP)
Sitting here upon your shoulder
Has been my job since you were born.
Sometimes I give you my advice,
Even when you thought you didn't need it.
I know you're thinking of leaving him.
Mostly because you're unsure.
Something about this man makes you shiver.
But you can't decide if it's real.
But as he sings you this song from his heart,
Don't turn away till you've heard every part.
It may never reach the top of the charts
But it's all about you.
You think he acts like such a child.
And sometimes I must say...I agree.
But when he has to show the world he's a man...
Very few can do what he can.
Freewill is a gift from up above
I can only guide you, not decide.
I feel your heart ache as you struggle
With your emotions...all torn up inside.
But as he sings you this song from his heart,
Don't turn away till you've heard every part.
It may never reach the top of the charts
But it's all about you.
As he sings...
You list the good times, the bad times,
The times he'd make you laugh with funny rhymes...
And the time that you hated him so.
At the end of that ride, the hate would subside
And all that is left is the love.
This old angel, he wont leave you
Right here on your shoulder I'll be.
When you're searching for an answer.
That whisper you hear will be me.
and as he sings you this song from his heart,
Don't turn away till you've heard every part.
It may never reach the top of the charts
But it's all about you.
...and as he sings you this song from his heart,
Now that you've heard every part...
It may never reach the top of the charts
But you know it's true.
But you know it's true.
