Story Behind The Song
We wanted to write something that was in the flavor of Talking Heads or the Cars.
Song Description
Opening with momentum-creating rhythm guitar, "Having A Good Time" quickly establishes its sense of pace and tone, setting the stage effectively for the introduction of the vocals. The vocals are both stylistically fitting for the genre and boast that essential air of energy needed in order to really get those lyrics jumping out at the listener. The way the arrangement has been crafted is particularly effective and the way in which the various elements of the instrumentation are introduced over time helps give each part that bit more room to breathe. I also appreciate the slight rawness to the overall production and mix, it not only gives the track a live feel that helps to heighten the song's sense of energy, but it allows the music and performances to feel that bit more organic. All too often a rock track can very easily be overproduced to its detriment, resulting in a loss of both character and identity yet "Having A Good Time" adopts a more natural feel with regard to its overall sonic aesthetic.

Lyrics
Having A Good Time
(Orton, Bedford-Pugh)
Having a good time, but what's stopping you?
I keep on smiling,
I keep on smiling all the way through,
The myriad of catastrophes that,
Are always threatening me.
If you back off and leave me alone, you'll find...
A little harmony.
I keep on laughing at the things that I see.
But I notice you frowning,
'Cause you wish you could be more like me!
Your happiness is so out of sight now.
You're wondering where it went wrong.
Just take a moment to breathe and smile, and then,
You'll feel like you belong.
I know that it's not so easy,
Doing things that give peace of mind.
But let go of your fear and you will find,
You're having a good time.
I know that it's not so easy,
Doing things that give peace of mind.
But let go of your fear and you will find,
You're having a good time.
Having a good time, now I know you are too,
We keep on smiling,
We keep on smiling all the way through,
Everything that they're throwing our way,
They try to disturb our peace.
We'll just turn 'round and leave them to it, now,
That we both agree.
That we're having a good time.
Having a good time.
