Story Behind The Song
I love the Smiths' morbid sense of humor (e.g. "unhappy birthday"). After seeing an ad in an airplane catalog for a passenger doll ("for safety") that was obviously intended to allow HOV lane use, and inspired by the Smiths, the lyrics for rubber girl appeared effortlessly.
Song Description
An uptempo song, the reflections of a man who uses a blow-up doll passenger so he can ride in the carpool lane, and who finds comfort in the quiet companionship

* * *
and I lean you back
and I taste your lipstick
and it?s so relaxed
in this space, in this space
oh, don?t ever change
please never change
I want to remain by your side
and I feel your thigh
run along my finger
and I know it?s right
in this space, in this space
oh, don?t ever change
please never change
I want to remain by your side
(guitar solo)
I don?t care, ?cause I really, really, really love you, yes I do
don?t despair,?cause you haven?t even got a pulse, no no no
people stare, they don?t think you?re real
but I know how you feel deep inside
and we?re moving fast
but the moment lingers
let the pleasure last
in this space
in this space
oh, don?t ever change
please never change
I want to remain
by your side
by your side
oh no, no, no, no, no, no, rubber girl
