Story Behind The Song
" Deva " is the name the Romans called Chester, my home town. It was established around 79AD.
It's a song I wrote whilst working abroad. Feeling a bit home sick.
It's also one of the songs from my musical " RUDI "

Lyrics
I'm lying here thinking of home
And the faces I once new
And I recall all the things I've done
And the places I've been through
I can picture my old school
In the centre of the town
We used play in the Grosvenor park
and I really miss it now
And some times I wander how
In the rows the wall map shows
the gateways through the walls
And you can see the old Roodee
the horses in their stalls
Just walk awhile through the centre of town a Cathedral stands so high
Along the way the children play
And the great bell rings a sigh
Calling me and I know why
Chorus :
I want to go back home again
to the place where I felt good
I want to cross the old Dee bridge
to the place where we once stood
I want to go back home again
to the place I felt so right
I want to sit by the river side
On those Deva city nights.
I remember the wishing steps
the old mill in the groves
We used to watch the salmon leap
and the tourists in their droves
I can hear the old man sing
A dog sat by his side
And I can still remember
The river deep and wide
The night that we both cried
Chorus :
Deva city nights
Deva city nights.
