Story Behind The Song
The beginnings of this song was written during the Wisconsin Uprising of 2011. Partial inspiration comes from the Fo News story that was run on Bill O'Reilly's show about the violence taking place at the protests in Madison. This completely false story was manufactured by splicing violent footage from another protest in California where protesters in union shirts were seen fighting with others. It didn;t take long for people to notice that there were palm trees in the O'Reilly footage; something not seen in a Madison Winter.
Song Description
In today's polarized political climate one thing that neither side can agree with is a reliable news source. Liberals and centrists detest Fox News and Conservatives feel that Rachel Maddow is simply Bill O'Reilly for vegans; all present slanted views. The Onion, often mistaken for actual news is the one publication that doesn't care what side anyone is on as long as the story presented is funny.

Lyrics
There was once balance seen on my old TV
The news you'd get from David and Chet was all that you could see
But now one source has deemed the news that's fit to be
Like Hannity, Beck and what the heck, the entire GOP
Now it seems to me in the 21st century
All the glamor and glitter from Facebook and Twitter
There's so much for us to see
News internet by phone
News budgets stripped to the bone
Like the Monitor and Journal and graffiti 'round the urinal
They're in a class all of their own
CHORUS
'Cause you can't fool me, I'm sticking to the Onion
I'm sticking to the Onion, I'm sticking to the Onion
'Cause you can't fool me, I'm sticking to the Onion
I'm sticking to the Onion for all my news
So take a tip from me, I'm sure you will agree
Don't place your bets on news from the net or Al Jazeer-i-e
The Onion is by far, more fair than NPR
Or the BBC or you and me, or pundits at our bar
CHORUS
It's the best reporting of it's age, with a kinky romantic sage
It's the best news source, why yes of course
It says so on the very first page!
It's humor is the best, it's accurate more or less
Never gleam discourse from just one source or else tu stultus es
CHORUS
