Lyrics

Letting Go ( a song for Liz)- words and music by Bruce Stanley C1990
1) One day I spread a blanket out in an old dry river bed, and calmly thought I had the world controlled until you said:
"Would you let the waters carry you if the river should suddenly flow?" And (still I watch with wonder)I thought with fear and wonder
As you smiled (the sun, the sky, and you), smiled and urged me to let go.........
2) Fourteen days through Canada camping nights in a homemade tent, discovering magic in lakes and swallows and in the pine trees' scent.
Hating to leave the Rockies behind- oh, how their silence speaks! But in the plains we came to love the clouds
(those spanish galleon clouds), as much as snow-capped peaks......
Bridge: Cup your empty hands to drink from mountain streams; leave behind a footing that's safe to climb your dreams-
Let go of your life to preserve it, take the gift tho' you don't deserve it!
3) Time came to part me for Austria and you for the green mountain state. We almost missed my New York bus-the damn thing would
Not wait. You could have turned your head and wept as my Greyhound pulled away......Instead you danced a dance for me that said
(I love that little dance), Said you could let go of me.
Grow a little, feel freer; die a little, let it be. Fly a little, feel your wings start floppin'. Live a little, let it happen!
4) And now we're waiting for a child, we talk about the change:"Will we know just when to hold him close? And not fear to let her range?"
Yes, growing is full of tiny dyings right up to the last...But when each comes we'll just recall those times
(those joyful, fearful times) we let go in the past!
