Story Behind The Song
The guitar riff came first. I wasn't sure where I could use it. Literally a few minutes later these words came to me. It took me a few minutes to realize that they would fit if I spoke the words over the riff. Not easy at first.

Lyrics
Hey Joe just want you to know
She came around here yesterday
She had a lot on her mind
She had a lot to say
Maybe it was the way she was wearing your jacket
Sleeves rolled up hands in the pockets
Maybe it was the way she rolled her eyes
She knew I was lyin when she saw your stuff
Hey Joe you know she's still very pissed off
Bout the way you crashed out and left the scene
She said it was a crime the way you up and ran away
I said yeah I know what you mean
Then she got that look on her face
That sad one that always got to me
She looked around shook her head
Looked up and said well where is he?
Joe you know I tried to lie
But it wouldn't stay on my face
I looked her straight in the eye said
He was here before but now he's at Sandy's place
She nodded, blinked bit her lower lip
Wiped her nose on the back of her hand
Said tell the fucker the baby needs Tylenol
The landlord's looking for a grand
Joe you know I felt kinda bad
The way she stood there she looked pretty hurt
Joe don't get me wrong I'm on your side here
Just too bad you couldn't make it work
Joe I didn't meant to take advantage
But the way her green eyes got all red
Even now I feel bad thinking about it
The way she just stood there shaking her head
I tried to say the right thing
But I ain't always that smart
I said I think I have a few aspirin around here
Got a few dollars, I know it's not a lot
She wiped her nose again, gave me a smile
Pushed her hair back behind her ear
I went up to her, got up close
and just wiped away a tear
She fell into my arms Joe
I held her close and tight
Took a while for her to pull away
I said something stupid like it'll be all right
Joe you know you're an asshole
That girl never did anything wrong
If she were mine I'd go back to her right now
I wouldn't have stayed away this long
Yeah Joe I know it's not any of my business
But one thing was always pretty clear
You were the one she was always in love with
Pass me another beer
