Ariel has a funky, soulful, melodic style that is both engaging and heartfelt.
Her songs are both sensual and clever, her lyrics are tangled with her own passionate reflections about love and loss and finding our way through. She is
a powerful performer, having been on stage since she was a child.
Companies such as Starbucks and Kodak have already caught on to the power of Ariel’s message. Music from Ariel’s brand new CD “Behold” can be heard in over 4,000 Starbucks stores as well as in the popular Kodak program PhotoShow. Not only is this striking artist a dynamic performer but she is a true songstress, possessing a unique gift at blending fresh poetic imagery with evocative melody. On her new CD “Behold,” “a recording of sophistication and passion” (Wallace Baine, Santa Cruz Sentinel), Ariel mixes Pop, Jazz, Folk and Rock to create a moving sound, all her own.
At the age of eight Ariel, began writing poetry and playing piano. Growing up listening to everything from Joni Mitchell and Al Green to Bach and the Beatles, her love for music was obvious at an early age. At ten, Ariel began singing on stage alongside her mom, then, A & M Children's Recording Artist, Linda Arnold. After numerous Disney Channel appearances and nine albums recorded with her mom, Ariel decided it was time to do something on her own. At the age of fourteen she created the A-Cappella trio Mayim. Singing a wide range of vocal styles, the group covered everything from Bulgarian, Folk, Classical, Pop to Sacred music and shared the stage with the likes of Zap Mama and Compy Segundo.
During her work with Mayim on stage and in the studio producing two award winning CD’s, Ariel’s love for writing poetry continued. At the piano her poems began to find their way into song. Soon after a series of collaborations with guitarists followed. Ariel’s first solo CD “My Art is a Bird” showcases the rich song writing that took place during that period and her unique ability not only a singer/songwriter but a producer. “It’s a remarkable collection, a set of songs loaded with uncommon music......The kind of introspective and dreamy epics that could hardly be pulled apart and disconnected from each other- a loose song cycle from a highly talented young woman with the world at her feet”(Rob Pratt, Santa Cruz Metro).
One of Ariel’s collaborators Guitarist Michael Kraus, has proven to be a dynamic compliment to Ariel’s vocal talents. The talented Kraus, also co-produced Ariel’s new CD and the two continue to forge a strong musical team. Along with Michael, Ariel has brought together a number of highly talented musicians to contribute to her songs, notably recording artist and Cellist Barry Phillips, who tours extensively with Ravi Shankar.
Not only does Ariel have a powerful voice, but she is an artist who cares about the voices of her listeners. She is the leader of four different women’s choirs in the Bay Area and maintains a private vocal school. Her passionate belief in working to create a world where people feel free and unbound to express their voices, spills forth into her songs, keeping her fans returning over and over to be filled up with the possibility and magic that Ariel’s music exudes. In 2006, with her new CD under her wing, Ariel Thiermann looks forward to touring, meeting new fans and always remembering to “behold the bravery in being a beginner.”
