Chris Lacy - Biography
1. PAPILLON (1995 -1998)
In the height of the Britpop Era, the group Papillon led by Chris Lacy, (Nigel Bird/Richard Cullen/Nick Griffiths) were an Oxford based 4 piece rock band with a substantial following clocking up over 150 gigs over 3 years. Renowned locally and further afield they were known for high energy performances relentlessly playing the London circuit and across the south including Radio 1 Sound City 97' in their home town of Oxford. Influenced by bands of the time (Kula Shaker/Weller/Dodgey) they mixed classic rock sounds with melodic hooks and though gaining a solid fanbase and attracting industry attention, never fulfilled their full potential being tied to an unfruitful management contract.
2. ARCHIE (2003-present)
A new direction and writing style emerged with the help and influence of guitarist and songwriter Dan Austin. The new sound focused on dynamics based around an acoustic core (influenced by acts like 'The Unbelievable Truth') and was joined and solidified by long-term drummer Nigel Bird and bassist James Kennedy playing a moderate number of local and London gigs over the following 2 years. This developed the sound and a 2-track cd was recorded and sent to a handful of publishers. Response was highly positive leading to the recording of album 'Fill the Sound' completed in 2005.
To date, 3 tracks from this album have secured publishing deals and an additional track has secured placement in independent U.S movie 'A night at the Cat'. With a new line-up and sound (addition of new bassist Ed Kennedy-George) Archie are in the process of recording tracks to complete their awaited second album.
