Kenny Cash Bio

Kenny Ca$h, the dubbed "King of Strings," is a royally-talented musician and producer. For nearly a decade, he has led various funk, soul, and hip-hop groups, while producing the works of numerous artists and performing all styles of music on the bass, electric, and acoustic guitar.

At sixteen, Ca$h began learning the bass and became heavily involved in the study of jazz, citing his main influences as Coltrane and Jaco Pastorious. Ca$h received a scholarship to the world-famed Berklee College of Music, where he mastered guitar, drums, keyboards, and even clarinet, though his main instrument continues to be the bass. He prides himself on using "the most inexpensive bass in the world," which is a Squier Jazz Bass, and has even influenced other musicians to pick one up.

At Berklee, Ca$h lead a band called Decifunk, for which he played bass and was also responsible for writing the majority of their songs. This Boston-based band took funk "to a whole new level" by interweaving R&B, soul, and hip-hop. Decifunk did a full East Coast tour, playing about 40 shows in two and a half months, and was up for Best Funk Band at the Boston Music Awards in 2002, which honored big bands such as Aerosmith. Next, influenced by The Roots and Jill Scott, Ca$h led a neo-soul band called The Evolved.

After college, Ca$h taught himself the art of production and sound engineering. He met D-Block's Supa Producer, Vinny Idol, who brought Ca$h into his camp and church to perform guitar/bass parts. Ca$h became heavily involved in the world of hip-hop, though he still honors a longstanding commitment to both rock and gospel music.

Ca$h opened his own studio in September 2006. Containing equipment such as Avalon preamp, RME Fireface, Cubase, Pro Tools, Events Precision 8, UAD card, AKG414 mic, and Blue Mouse mic, the studio is where Ca$h teams up with other artists such as Cory Gunz, Young N/A, Hand Grenade Serenade, The All Grass Blue Stars, Delmar Brown, and Gianna Knight.
