Story Behind The Song
While slowly hiking on the "Hohe Strasse" between Frankfurt and Marköbel (a former roman border fortress on the "Limes") I payed attention to the sounds of this landscape and started to imagine what took place on this highway during its long history.
The "Hohe Strasse" is a ridgeway on the hill ridges between the Main Valley and the Nidder Valley used already in prehistoric times. It is part of the medieval "Via Regia" connecting Moscow with Santiago de Compostela)
The UK Songwriting Contest 2018 considered this composition a Commended Entry in the Instrumental Category.
Song Description
This piece is a sort of personal diary entry or musical painting. After the whole day hiking on the "Hohe Strasse", I transferred the sounds of the landscape on musical instruments and created a sort of priming or accompaniment to the melodic ideas coming up, which are connected to my imagination of what could have taken place on this bit of ancient long distance road. Surely some of the sounds were audible also 1000 years ago... However the layer of "sounds or noises" represent a more objective level communicating with the melodic and harmonic elements of my subjectively biased imagination. At the end one of the "objective sounds"(birds' twittering in a linden tree at the "Limes") appears unaltered...
