Story Behind The Song
I suppose it's a composite snapshot of several people I've known.
Song Description
When a guy with a drinking problem comes home for the umpteenth time totally tanked, he finds his gal with her bags packed waiting for him on the porch. He realizes that she is serious, and begs her to stay. She finds a way to forgive him and, in doing so, helps him become a better man...all through the song, he wonders what life would be like if she had walked away.

Lyrics
"IF SHE HAD WALKED AWAY"
VS 1
Stumblin' home at 3am, knowing I had let her down again
By making whiskey my best friend
Standin' on the front porch step, there was Molly, suitcase in her hand,
Screaming 'This is the end'
I fell at her feet, and I begged her to stay
I was surprised I might lose her that day
CHORUS 1
And I wondered how my life would be
If she didn't forgive me
Could I go on or could I even face another day
I wondered what my life would be like if Molly walked away
VS2
Staring up at Molly's face, I was struck by her angelic grace
And even though she was hurt
Fresh compassion in her eyes on that front porch made me realize
I had a treasure in her
I couldn't believe she forgave me again
Her love is what saved my life in the end
CHORUS 2
And I wonder how my life would be
If she'd never forgiven me
Could I go on, or would I be a broken man today
I wonder what my life would be like
If she had walked away
BRIDGE
It's amazing to me how she took this man
And turned my life around with one touch of her hand
CHORUS 2
And I wonder how my life would be
If she'd never forgiven me
Could I go on, or would I be a broken man today
I wonder what my life would be like
If she had walked away
