Story Behind The Song
This is about a person dealing with having lost the one they love, and dealing with their feelings. The opening line "Don't handle me, don't try to make it better" Is this person saying to a friend to let me cope with this in my own way, nothing you say will make this better.
You learn in the song that the person has let go of their love because the one they are in love with wanted to be free, and the person telling the story loved the one wanting to be free enough to let them go.
In the second verse you hear this person dealing with the melancholy of missing the one that has left.
In verse three this person is even kind of consoling their friend by telling them they are going to put a smile on their face and just fade away like a good hearted soldier.
The bridge of the song speaks to the hurt that this person feels everytime someone tries to talk to them about lost love.

Lyrics
That's The Way It Will Be Copyright 2011 Alan Hesse, Scott Hesse
Verse 1:
Don't handle me
Don't try to make it better
If no one is to blame
What does it matter
He/She just wanted to be free
That's the way it will be
Verse 2:
I close my eyes
And see his/her face less and less
So this is how it feels
As sunset melts to emptiness
Like a melancholy tune
Loneliness fills the room
Bridge:
There's no glory in, there's no story in, losing at love
It's a story told, so many times, it's gotten old
Verse 3:
Believe me friend
No words can make this better
I'll put a smile on my face
And play the good hearted soldier
Just a fading memory
That's the way it will be
