Greetings CenterPeace. Thank you for your review of "I AM". I appreciate the listen and the feedback. So glad you enjoyed the song and that you found the live instrumentation a refreshing. Its nice to know that people enjoy listening to the music as much as I enjoy creating it. Again..Thanks :-)
Thanks for your review of "MY Friend". I feel it's good to get constructive criticism from someone on the outside that doesn't know you personally. I was wondering if you could tell me why my vocals got a 3/5? What can I do to improve the vocals and song as a whole?
Greetings Ellen. Thank you for sharing your wonderful music also thank you for requesting so kindly a more indepth explanation of my rating. I think your vocals are beautiful the only other thing I would have loved was to also feel that deep love and satisfaction that wells up in our souls when we know that we are truly never alone. You sound wonderful and you almost took me to that place but its like you went right to the edge and then held back emotionally. Technically you did everything right. You sang the song perfectly but its like you didn't just let go and give it all to us...if that makes any sense. Its the best way I can explain it. You have a wonderful testimony and I know when you perform live you let go. Just want to hear that same emotional release in your recordings that I know you give during worship and praise. You know that feeling you get when you share the glorious experience of knowing God personally...You have a gift...don't hold back on Us :-)
Thank you so much for further explaning that to me. I do know I have a problem in the area you spoke of (holding back). It's not that I do this intentionally it somehow comes out that way and really don't know how to change it. You are correct I have been told that my live performance is really felt deep down. How can i make that happen in a recording? I think I worry about mistakes too much when I record and when I sing live, even though I may make one (I try not to) It doesn't seem to matter because I'm in my zone. But for some reason or another, I can't get in my zone when I record.
I do understand..but I must say you have the answer to your own question. To get into your ZONE during recording...Just Think less & FEEL More..Simply allow the music to transport you and let your heart be your guide. Some of my best takes have been when I made a "MISTAKE" or deviated off the path a bit. Those have been some of the most magical musical moments captured. REMEMBER: You can always get another take or edit on the back end. But during the moment just flow and don't censor yourself emotionally. Just close your eyes and let the spirit lead you. Have faith, Let GO, and Let God Use you :-)
Thank you, I needed that! God always has a ram in the bush when you need it most. When others have failed to tell you what you really need to here, God has someone that will get right into it and tell you the truth just in the nick of time. Thank you for being my ram. : )
Hi TwinSpirit, Thanks for your review on our song; "Goodbye My Broken Heart". 2/5 you gave this song is the lowest ever. You said it was heading in the right direction but never said where it went astray. Reviews are meant to help improve the song. We expected you to say something about your scores. What's wrong with the lyrics to get 2/5? Arrangement 2/5? What's arrangement after all? Teach us please? Recording 2/5? How was the song supposed to be recorded? Originality of the song 2/5, which song was plagiarized then? ---listen to this artist, 2/5. You mean you don't even wanna give us a chance to learn from your vast experience? TwinSpirit, is this song that bad? This is a very discouraging review. Since it's in bad spirit, we're getting it removed. Once again thanks.
My apology if you felt this review was negative. I have worked as a professional song writer for many years and have had my songs pulled apart by many of the best. Not as a negative but in order to assist me in bringing out the best in me as a writer. I never take feedback, be it the best are worst as a negative. Its all merely an opinion and gives me the opportunity to explore new perspective or just stick to my guns if I feel its as I think it should be. I felt the song was a good idea but could be great. I felt that each area could have been explored a bit deeper. I gave 2/5 in many areas because it seemed that the surface had only been scratched. Good idea but wanted to feel it deeply. I am tough but honest. I understand your desirew to have it removed, but it was not written in bad spirit it was written in honesty and because I could tell that you have the ability to make it GREAT! Do what you must but understand that we all as writers must be open to honest feedback even if we disagree it can all be used to help us grow as writers. All the best.
Hi TwinSpirit, Thanks for confirming what we said. When the best tear a song apart, they don't just do it for the sake of it and leave it there. They explain all the song aspects to you to help you do it better. If you had done the same, we'd have no qualms with it. The lyrics of that song; "Goodbye My Broken Heart" received smashing reviews from some professional songwriting associations. Here at Broadjam, a lot of us don't seem to understand what things like "Quality of Lyrics" entail. Meter, rhyme, diction and the special relationship the last line of the verse ought to have with first line of the hook in order to achieve the desired transition to enhance the "Quality of the hook"; is a thing a lot of us ain't aware of. Whether the hook is catchy, reflective and a culmination of what transpires in the verses; you rarely hear it mentioned in a review. Even when all aspects of songwriting are taken care of, a lot of us can't pick it up in a song. You see someone giving 2/5 to such a well crafted song. Their comments are not reflective of their scores. This is the reason why a lot of artists that belong to professional associations don't take these reviews seriously. We're letting ourselves down! When someone scores 2/5 on whether they'd want to hear more of another artist, it speaks volumes of their intent. When we score a song, let's explain the scores. That's the only way to help each other grow. We are in this together! Good luck.
Point taken...and I understand what you are trying to say. My review was brief and I did not decontruct your song point by point. I gave a general overview of my thoughts. Please, if I might add..remember this is also supposed to be something we enjoy and be a fun way to network and grow. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions and reviewing styles. You can receive the feedback left or discard it if you feel it holds no merit. That's the beauty of it all. At the end of the day a review is merely just an opinion. No ill intent was meant. Again wishing you all the best.
That's the spirit. Thank you!
