thanks for your very kind and thorough review of All You Are. Everything is so subjective - many who have reviewed it want the vocals up front further, while you want it back a bit - so in the end, you just mix as best you can and hope to find that sweet spot - again, thanks for taking the time and spending the effort - it means a lot!
thanks, Paul for the nice review/comments on my song called "What I've Got"...I was fortunate to get a friend to play my piano parts that I had originally done...and he really did a nice smooth job...he has a more jazz background than my rockin', so it was a great mix of styles...
Great job Paul sweet love that funky beat and the smooth lyrics keep up it will be the good stuff that saves us all my fellow song writer check out thewordking.com PS,never sell your publishing
Thanks for the review of Old Man, Young Man. I appreciate it, Paul!
You get more than your fair share of my songs Paul - thank you. It's a kind and thorough review of Heart To Heart and is much appreciated. Cheers and keep safe. Bob
Thanks for kind Words on your Review of "Johnny, Drop That Gun" . I realyy appreciated it. Stay well.
Hi Paul, Thanks for a very detailed and kind review of Little One. Can't argue with the de-esser comment but I struggle with that aspect having not managed to use them very effectively up to now, however, the new version of Melodyne has a good way of dealing sibilance but still requires caution if a lisp is to be avoided! I'll put it on the list of things to do. Many thanks again. Bob
Thanks for the great review of "What About My Reward" and glad to hear you liked the cymbal ride in the solo. That was a last-minute addition but I always dug the sound.
"Track 13"Great solid groove.. Reminds me of the group "Morphine" Exciting vocals, as well as your sax playing!!! Super job!!
thank you so very much for commenting - so glad you enjoyed the tune! all the best to you...
I see you have Michael W Smith as a referance for "Password to Power". My favorite Michael W Smith song is "Pray for Me".
I don't remember anything about that
I guess in the song description for similar artists you have Amy Grant and Michael W Smith. "Pray for Me" came out in 1988.
Oh I put that down just cuz I couldn't think of anyone. I'm not into the big stars.
Hello Kate, thank you for taking the time to review Power of Love - enjoyed your comments - nice to know that someone "got it" concerning the textures and effects of the song about the voodoo priestess Brigitte and the dark lord Salmudi. Again, many thanks, and now that I think on it, you are right - I should have emphasized the 2nd syllable of "consumed".
You are welcome!
Thanks Paul for the review of Maddy Interesting observations because I've noticed on some of my older recordings that are up on Bjam, the sound quality has deteriorated There are some weird drops in level, strange buzzy noises and clicks etc They're not on the original recordings Strange Best to you
Earl-- I've noticed the same thing! Could it be real or could it be the sounds our minds starting a meltdown over the world today? P.
I thought it was getting better Earl! P.
Thank you for the excellent review of Walkin', Paul. It's the edited instrumental version of my full-vocal version with the same title. Glad you liked it!
Paul, Killer Tune, "Power Of Love" 5 stars & likes!! Very cool Sir.....Great Job!!! Very original!!! The Corey's................
thanks for the kind words! keep on keepin' on...
Thanks for your useful review of "Smoke on my Guitar". Regards.
When I get a low 30s review, I always think, "I bet its that Paul Sanderburg guy!" But it's cool. You're a songwriter, and I think true songwriters always want to re-write other people's songs. I do that a bit myself in my reviews. Then there's my vocals. Yeah I wish I had been blessed with a singer's voice. But until I meet a singer to take over that duty for me, It's gonna be me singing...Anyway, just before your review of You Saved me, I had another that was mid 40s. They commented on my poor vocal, but focused on the song's strengths. Absolutely no problem with your rankings. I know they're honest. Maybe someday you'll hear You Saved Me with a real singer, and realize, the tune is just right as is. :-)
I'm not trying to rewrite your song - I made an honest assessment that the middle or B section of the song as it may, doesn't work for me, whereas the head section works very well - it's easy to get caught up in what you yourself hears as, after all, you wrote it, but ... that doesn't always translate to what others are hearing - just my opinion and thank you for not having an issue with my honest assessment, but that middle section certainly is nowhere near as strong as the rest of the song - I would really, really love to hear this with a great vocalist - it would certainly change the mix a great deal... and also - since the vocals effect so much of the score... (not only vocals but production scores - this would add another 5 points to the score by itself) regardless, it's all subjective, because it's art after all!!! my critique is only meant to be helpful to the artist, not in any way trying to demean anyone - as I said, I hear some really nice things with this song and yes, I'd surely like to hear it with a true vocalist.
hello Michael, thank you for your thoughtful review of my song "track 13 (next stop oblivion" - I appreciate your input and nice catch, the drums are indeed machine constructs. all the best to you!
Paul thanks for the kind review of Anything You Want Best to you
Thanks Paul for the thorough review you made on Upside down, despite of the language barrier. Very constructive comments and fair ones !
Hi Paul, Thanks for another review, you must be a busy person?! Somehow all my older songs seem be coming up for review and It's Over Now is one of them, about 10 years ago and rerecorded in 2017. It was written to sound dated even then so you are dead right about the retro feel! You are very realistic and constructive with your reviews and I appreciate that. Thanks again, Bob
yeah, I AM busy, but try to review at least one song a day - so your songs keep coming up - good, for I enjoy them. music is the ultimate communication device.... be well!
And you!
Such beautiful lyrics and melody~
Love this tune...just beautiful lyrics.
thank you Peg, so nice to see you on this site - some very good music going on here!
Hi Paul. Very many thanks for your review of 'Keep Me Warm'. It means a lot to have such a positive appraisal. Regards. David.
just calling them like I see em (or hear em) - truly enjoyed the song very much.
Thanks for reviewing my blues instrumental, Paul. It's actually an edited instrumental version of my full vocal track "Blues Conversation."
Hey Paul, I appreciate your review of 'Walking Miracle' despite the low score. I absolutely know my vocals are poor, in particular on this song. I have been trying to record the vocal again. I'll listen for that meter problem at the beginning. You know my weak points. I'll try to find time to listen to some of your pieces. Best of luck.
I'm glad you didn't take my constructive criticism the wrong way - I try very hard to be cognisant of artist's feelings, but in the end, telling the truth about what you hear should be the goal, and what the artist should take to heart - after all, what's the point of putting a song out for a peer review is all you are looking for is affirmation? all the best to you.
Oops sorry for double post, I'll delete.
Thanks for another great, constructive, review Paul, this time for Days Of Mystery. I'm pleased you felt as you did because it is one I'm most proud of in terms of production. You are right about the esses, I think I have a better version of Melodyne that might just be able to deal with that now, I haven't got on very well with de-essing software to date. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words. Bob
