Thanks for the generous review of "Windy Road" At the moment I am saving for the Hollywood Strings/Brass libraries... but on a student budget they aren't cheap!
Phil There are at lease 3 good string libraries I know of. I use the EastWest Symph. Set, there is the Vienna Set (very expensive but on sale at times and you can get sub sets and build up a library), and Michael Horsphol (you should listen to his stuff here on BJ) recommends LA Scoring Strings. If you are a student, you can get discounts. Just thought I would pass this along. Happy music making! Ken
I also use EastWest Symphony orchestra... the hollywood strings is the upgrade, as is hollywood brass.
Thanks for the comment! I dont think you are too hard, we must be hard it is a VERY competitive market. BTW check out Victory In September, it is just picked for a sync deal and in the top 10. You might like it ;)
Thanks for the review of "fight and flight" its nice to see that some other people put more effort into the review process and come up with good points rather than "this song is awesome"... only one complaint would be the 4/5 on the vocal pitch... which would have perfect pitch because they're samples. All in all a very fair review. Thanks!
Thanks Phil, I didn't think there was much to say about yours - it was very good. And fair comment with the vocal pitch - still learning what is appropriate and I concede the point.
Just took a listen to your latest stuff... sounds great! Found the score to Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" http://www.mediafire.com/?imtdz0wj222 1 and thought you might be interested... soo many great parts to that piece. Just finished a piece - "fight and flight" - inspired by it... cheers!
Thanks Phil - I'll definitely check out that Stravinsky score and also your piece! Take care - J
Thanks for taking the time to review "Drive!"... If you watch a truck/car commercial with mute on and play the song underneath it you may understand this song a bit better! - Phil H.
Hi , You're welcome , ...yes ...If and if and if ...it is a little challenging when you are facing with a music for screen and you don't know that ...much difference in viewpoint may happen . Pasha
Thanks for reviewing "Drive" I never thought about it as a soundtrack piece before; I was originally trying to emulate a car/truck commercial kind of sound. Thanks, Phil H.
No problem Phil.
Hi Phil, thanks for reviewing my song 'we were soldiers'. You're right - the song would be more commercial with a rhythm section added. I have thought long and hard about it but decided against it for now. This song is a very personal song as it's about my great grandfather's experience of WW1 and as such I want to keep it feeling intimate - although I do have a version with additional banjo as well as the ukulele/vocal you heard on this version. Anyway, thanks again for your thorough review. It's much appreciated. Johnny
Great stuff Johnny, best of luck with your writing.
Hey Phil. Thanks for taking the time to review my song Fine. And I know exactly what you mean about the electro drum thing front and back. trying to be clever their, and it never really felt right. so thanks for the confirmation. good luck to you.
Hi Phil Thanks for your very generous review of my composition "A Waltz for Beth". I take on board your suggestion of a thicker orchestration at the end of the piece; I think this could make a difference to the overall effect. I see, like me, you are a relatively new member to Broadjam, so I wish you all the best with your music.
thanx Phil for your review of "this song has no hook" the full instrumental version. you are very correct that it doesn't have allot of cohesion, and that's because it's a quirky backing track to a quirky vocal--i have cut this down in "pieces" to be more interesting, but your comments are right on for this one, and you obviously know SO MUCH MORE about mucic than i, i just write the melodies, suggest the backing parts and my producer does what i what and desire. i'm a pop/rock/folk dude and with the added intruments (sitar i wanted) is was looking for something strange--ala what you heard...LOL... you are a knowledgeable musician, and your comments mean allot, and are i'm sure correct for many purposes....thank you very much. warren hein
Just checked out the top 3 tunes on your page... Good stuff, sounds really polished.
muchas gracias mi amigo! warren
This site has a great supportive vibe going on, I'm glad I found it!
Phil, Thanks for the note and being a member. Please keep me posted on your progress and if I can help in anyway, please let me know.....All the best, Roy
