George Wolff is a singer-songwriter whose music flows from Americana to Jazz/R&B-tinged Rock. Starting on trumpet and piano, George moved to voice, acoustic and electric guitar, pedal steel, keyboards, and bass by the end of college. He played in bands in New Haven, CT (where he grew up), Montreal, PQ (where he went to college), and San Francisco, CA (where disaster struck . . .). In San Francisco, George led the band, Weathervane, as songwriter, lead vocalist and bassist, but it was short-lived. In 1999, while riding his bike, George was cut-off by a car: broken arms, ribs, and permanent nerve damage to his right hand – and too much trauma for his marriage to handle. It was 2 years before he could play an instrument again. Once able to hold a pick, however, he wrote music packed with the emotion of his experiences. His forthcoming CD, One Way Fare, transforms the pain of dark places into beauty, and his raw emotional lyrics spark a heart-to-heart conversation with the listener.
George Wolff
George Wolff is a singer-songwriter living in Portland, Oregon, whose music flows between Americana and Jazz/R&B-tinged Rock.
Starting-off with trumpet and piano in his single-digit years, George moved to voice, acoustic and electric guitar, pedal steel, keyboards, and bass by the time he finished college. He played in bands in New Haven, Connecticut (where he grew up), Montreal, Quebec (where he went to college), and San Francisco, California (where disaster struck . . .).
In San Francisco, George put together the band, Weathervane, in which he was the principal songwriter, lead vocalist and bassist, supported by drums, electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, and three back-up vocalists (2 female and 1 male). Unfortunately, Weathervane was short-lived.
In 1999, while riding his bike, George was cut-off by a car, resulting in two broken arms, broken ribs, and permanent nerve damage to his right hand ? and too much trauma for his marriage to withstand. It was 2 years before he could begin to play an instrument again; relearning and reconfiguring instruments to adapt to his new situation.
Once able to hold a pick, however, he wrote much more music, packed with the emotion of his experiences. His forthcoming debut CD, One Way Fare, transforms the pain of these dark places into beauty, and his raw emotional lyrics spark a heart-to-heart conversation with the listener. And, his writing has not let up since. Back to playing all of his beloved instruments, songs and soundtrack material is pouring out of him.
George is also playing live again ? mostly solo, as he recently relocated to Portland. He put together a trio to perform at festivals and venues, which he has taken from Portland to San Francisco and back. His forthcoming CD, ?One Way Fare,? is due to be self-released in Spring 2007.
