When You Gonna Hit

Story Behind The Song

The Chant, "When You Gonna Hit" just kept popping into my head when out walking! The story evolved from there!

Song Description

Two people meet and play when kids. The girl has a fall from the swings and the boy gives over his JB Hanky but doesn't feel noticed! Life goes on and their feelings are concealed until she is involved in a car accident. For the first time, he holds her and she shares something special! They both realise they were waiting for each other!

Lyrics

When You Gonna Hit ©?(Jim Aitken)

V1
Played with you, in first year school,
Bunches, in your hair,
I fell for that, cheeky girl,
Who tugged my heart, right there.

Later, on the playground swings
You fell and cut your knee,
I Gave my, JB hanky
But you never, noticed me,

So, When you gonna hit,
Oh, When you gonna hit,
When you gonna hit on me?

Ch
I always hoped you'd see me here, waiting patiently
Loved you from a distance, its plain the world can see,
Seems like I've been hangin' round, for all eternity,
So, When you gonna hit,
Oh, When you gonna hit,
When you gonna hit on me?

Bridge
Have I wasted all those years with feelings I conceal?
Am I trying to find a cure for something I can't heal?
Am I here to pick you up each time you take a fall
With each new guy you break my heart, do you know I'm here at all?

Ch
So, When you gonna hit,
Oh, When you gonna hit,
When you gonna hit on me?

V2
Couldn't stop that speeding car,
So motionless you lay,
The only time, I held you close,
Through tears, I heard you say,

"I've yearned the day you'd make a play
And hoped you'd hit on me.
Inside my purse, you'll neatly find
Your hanky, with "JB".

So, When you gonna hit,
Oh, When you gonna hit,
When you gonna hit on me?

She cried,
I always hoped you'd see me here, waiting patiently,
Loved you from a distance, its plain the world can see,
Seems like I've been hangin' round, for all eternity,

So, when you gonna hit,,
Oh, When you gonna hit,
When you gonna hit on me?

So, when you gonna hit,,
Oh, When you gonna hit,
When you gonna hit on me?

Here's a tragic "love missed" song. He liked her but never said anything. She liked him but was waiting for him to say something. The JB hanky - I didn't get it at first - but when it was found in her purse...great story line! The chorus is memorable. The story is GREAT, and very easy to follow. The tragic ending is very-well conceived. But tragic nonetheless. Everyone loves a good story song! This one really delivers!

Interesting perspective switching from male to female lead vocal. All of the backing instruments were very well played, and mixed very well with the vocal tracks. "Solid" steel guitar track.
