There's Not A Day

Story Behind The Song

This song was written in 2012 after spending 3 months working with homeless men and women. After getting to know them and becoming close, close friends the despair many faced on a daily basis took a toll on my happiness. It was hard to have a good day when so many were having bad days. One particular man was always a loner... stayed to himself... kept on the fringes. It took a while to get to know him and I remember him saying there's not much to get to know... most days it's just my shadow and me and even he thinks I'm a loser. Another thing he and others said on a regular basis was the concept of being tired of just being tired all the time. The kind of tired they're talking of is not something most of us can relate to. I can only imagine in my mind what it must be like to never have a day when you're happy or loved or feel like you accomplished something at all. It is a long hill to climb and one that gets heavier with every step.

Lyrics

There's not a day I don't feel hungry
There's not a day I don't feel cold
There's not a day I don't feel lonesome
Right down to my soul

There's not a day that I feel happy
There's not a day that I feel peace
There's not a day that I feel rested
Weary's taken over me

CHORUS
And I so tired of being tired
I'm not the man I thought I'd be
I've got no one who really cares
It's just my shadow and me
And my shadow looks like he's starting to doubt
That I will ever stand tall
Cuz this homeless man, has no real friends... at all.

There's not a day I don't feel hopeless
There's not a day I don't feel down
There's not a day I don't feel abandoned
There's no one to abandon me now

CHORUS
And I so tired of being tired
I'm not the man I thought I'd be
I've got no one who really cares
It's just my shadow and me...

BRIDGE
Day by day I walk this journey
And it gets harder every step...

There's not a day that I feel loved
There's not a day that I feel success
There's not a day that I feel much
Besides this awful emptiness

CHORUS
And I so tired of being tired
I'm not the man I thought I'd be
I've got no one who really cares
It's just my shadow and me

And I so tired of being tired
I'm not the man I thought I'd be
I've got no one who really cares
It's just my shadow and me

And my shadow looks like he's starting to doubt
That I will ever stand tall
Cuz this homeless man, has no real friends... at all.
