Convoy of Tears

Story Behind The Song

The song is a comment on the Vietnam war inspired by the Netflix series 'Vietnam' It refers to actual convoy, operation and equipment names (informed by vets who are associated with the producer Wes Maebe) ... the collaborative lyric writing is weighed alot on this side by Wes and Rachel provides the imagery and scene setting as well as the angry point of the chorus

Song Description

There is a deeply atmospheric intro employing reverse instrument parts ... verses explore a more sinister vibe with retracted instrumentation - the pre chorus builds heavily with kit and a down beat on electric guitar part ... the chorus explodes to heavy bass/guitar instrumentation ... there is an extensive solo outro that builds with background vocals and then flies free in a very rocky but compelling melodic riff

Lyrics

Convoy of Tears

Orange light on your tattoo skin
Purple Hearts in the jasmine
Paper kite tigers Second to None
Sweet aroma - one eye on the gun

Cut me jungle flowers razor thin
Cut you toxic saccharine
High down here under napalm skies
Harvest Moon in our watering eyes

Mekong whisper
Laps the shoreline
Shells lie under
Riverine water
Chu Lai starlight
Lights up the skyline
Sweatin' teardrops
Blindin' my eyeline

There's no comin' back from this
Nothin' could'a got us ready for this
Shadows droppin' from a gasoline sky
Carryin' us home where the stars and stripes fly

A pall of joy smoke under control
The night brings quiet ... Hunter Patrol
A pot in each hand - weighin' the scale
Moon-rock workin' on the Ho Chi Min trail

Convoy of Tears on the road to hell
Target landings Skyhawk farewell
Iriquois Warrior guide my flight
Give me cunning and Eagle eyesight

Mekong whisper
Laps the shoreline
Shells lie under
Riverine water
Kingfisher wingspan
Fracture the skyline
Over fields where
Rusting dog tags lie down

There's no comin' back from this ....

The world looks at us on their TV screens
Protest marches 'gainst Magnificent Evil
Dragon people in their nightmare dreams ... but
We're still holdin' our breath here fightin' 'gainst some devil

There's no comin' back from this ...
.....
Carry'n us home
All the way home
Carryin' us home where the stars and stripes fly
